Willard Ackmann, age 83, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012 in Round Rock, Texas. Willard was a resident of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Bloomington, Minnesota, and has been a resident since 1998. Willard was born on October 12, 1928, to Ernest and Myrtle (Anderson) Ackmann, in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, a distinct, small-town, that is rich in character and twenty miles from the Twin Cities.
Willard served in the United States Navy after high school for over five years then decided to further his education. He set his sights on the University of Minnesota and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He was also a member and served as the president of the Kappa Etta Kappa fraternity. Willard was blessed to share over 60 years of his life with Elaine Olson, whom he married on August 19, 1950 in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Willard was an usher and board member at St. Luke's Church in Richardson, Texas. While residing in Georgetown, he and Elaine were members of Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his career in the plastics industry as a sales engineer. He worked for Honeywell, Raytheon, until he employed himself and did business in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Dallas, Cleveland and Minneapolis. He retired in 1996, and enjoyed spending his time cooking, woodworking, square dancing, traveling and most importantly spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Less and Sam Ackmann.
Willard is survived by his loving wife Elaine; son Paul Ackmann and wife Martha of Saratoga Springs, New York; son David Ackmann and wife Cathy of The Colony, Texas; grandsons Stephan Ackmann of Austin, Texas, Brad Fletcher of Lake Dallas, Texas, Jason Fletcher and wife Julia of The Colony, Texas; granddaughter Stacy McQuage and husband Matt of Fredricksburg, Virginia; great granddaughters Alexandra, Lyra and Lydia Fletcher of The Colony, Texas; great grandson Lucian Fletcher of The Colony, Texas; his brother Dale Ackmann of Robinsdale, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 20, at Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown. A graveside service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. Services will be officiated by Pastor John Selle and Pastor Walter Pohland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 4010 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628.
